The successful candidate will join the friendly team which consists of 1 full time Consultant and Clinical Lead for the service and 1 part-time Consultants (as part of a Service Level Agreement through our close working with another local trust)
Most areas of special interest can be accommodated.
We are interested in a Consultant Neurologist with general skills and experience who may also like to develop a sub speciality interest that benefits the outcomes of our patients.
The main duties and responsibilities of the Consultant post are:
To provide a high quality service in Neurology to the patients of
our community and the surrounding area, using evidence-based guidelines and clinical governance structures.
To advise clinical colleagues on matters within his/her sphere of expertise.
To offer advice / support / education to medical, nursing, managerial and other staff on appropriate matters.
To carry out medical teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required.
To contribute to postgraduate and continuing medical education activity including Continuing Professional Development.
To contribute to the training of nurses, paramedical, scientific and technical staff.
To contribute to the management process within the Trust through participation in planning, project or liaison groups as appropriate. In particular, the post holder will be involved in Specialty & Service Unit meetings.
To support the Clinical Directors and General Manager with appropriate advice with regard to the development of Neurology and Medical services at the trust.
Essential criteria
Entry on GMC Specialist Register or Eligibility to enter it within 6 months from the date of the interview and hold a license to practice
- MRCP or equivalent postgraduate general medical experience
- MB ChB or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate qualifications MSc, MD, PhD, Masters in Education
Training
Essential criteria
- Training and experience equivalent to that required for UK CCT (or within 6 months of it being issued)
- CESR
Essential criteria
- Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in all aspects of general neurology
- Comprehensive knowledge in Neurology and ability to offer expert clinical opinion in the management of acute and chronic neurological disorders
Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
Desirable criteria
- An interest in a sub-specialist field within neurology
